Another lethargic effort sinks the Pirates.

For the second time in as many games, the Pirates turned in a sluggish effort. This time, however, their diminished effort was against one of the top teams and the Pirates could not escape with the loot. Offensively, the Hookers had two 3 batter innings, two 4 batter innings, and three 5 batter innings. Café Hollywood turned in a fine defensive performance allowing the Hookers few opportunities to plunder mistakes.

The same could not be said about a Pirates defense that leaked like a rotting schooner and ultimately sabotaged this raid. The Hookers also curried no favor with the official as every close call went against them--including Keith E Kristen C missing second and a blown call that should have doubled up Don K at first in the 6th. "Vinnie (the Ump) apologized to me for missing the calls, but there's only one official--he can't see everything..." lamented manager John C.

But 2 runs doesn't win many games and an offensive line of .207/.310/.345 is woeful.

"As bad as the numbers look..." said John C, "...hides the fact we hit the ball better than they did. The difference was they made the plays and we didn't..."

Café starting pitcher Deryl B didn't have his best stuff, but the grizzled veteran limited damage and made few mistakes.

Garry S and John C pitched well enough for the Pirates, but poor defense and the lack of offense sunk the ship.
