DPH Post Season Round 1

Dirty Pirate Hookers: 2009 Playoffs, Round 1

DPH: 20
Xerox: 15

9/10/09, Thursday, 6:00 PM @ Fireman's field

The Pirates enlist their cannoneers to subjugate the enemy.

On the rare occasion DPH pitchers struggle, the Pirates go broadside and trade cannon shots with their foe.  Such was their path to conquest for Game 1 of the 2009 post season.

Xerox, through a combination of power and on base skills, immediately put 4 on the board.  The Pirates barely flinched at the challenge and quickly responded with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st.  Christina C, the Captain, ripped a line drive single to left and with one out, an E-5 allowed Colleen B to join her cousin's cousin on base. Through the looking glass, Warren S lined an RBI single to right scoring the Captain.  Garry S reloaded the cannons with a ground ball single up the middle.  Garry went to second; Colleen and Steve F (running for Warren) scored courtesy of nervous hands in center.  John C proceeded to score Garry with a line drive double to right-center.

In the second, Xerox, appropriately, duplicated their initial production with another 4 spot.  This time, the Hookers had no answer and entered the third down 4.  Being spiteful free booters, they returned the favor--blanking Xerox in the top of the inning.

The Pirates rolled out the heavy artillery seeking to soften up their foe.  Steve F fired the first shot--a double through the right side.  With one out, Warren mimicked Steve's hit--less a base--and earned an RBI.  With two outs, Garry blooped a shot to short center creating a meeting of the minds as the ball fell in the triangle, but no out.  John C stepped to the plate and on the second pitch launched a moon shot over the fence in right for the Pirates first home run of the game.  Mike F followed with a single to the left side and scored on a line drive triple to left by Scott J.  Automatic Out followed with a rally slaying out.

Xerox refused to go quietly and put up two runs off new Hooker pitcher John C to take a slim one run lead.  But the Pirates hankered for the loot and responded with 7 runs in their half of the inning.  With two outs, Colleen drew a hard earned walk.  Justin V followed with a double to put runners on second and third for Shaye H.  Shaye took a four pitch walk to load the bases for Garry S who launched a line drive grand slam to center-right to put the Hookers up for good.  John C re-engaged with a single up the middle and scored on a Mike F two run bomb to left.  Scott J Xeroxed Mike's bomb with a back to back shot of his own.  Once again, a budding rally was truncated by Automatic Out.

John C continued to struggle in the 5th--lacking movement and command of his pitches--and he failed to frame Xerox who copied another 4 spot to the board.  In the Sea Dog's half of the inning, the Captain led off with a single, but the Pirates caissons ran empty--stranding Christina at sea.

The Pirates played to their strength and made another pitching change in the 6th, marching Garry S to the circle.  Garry immediately gave up a solo shot, but stopped the Xerox offense for the remaining two innings.  The Pirates took advantage of the reprieve and re-primed their cannons.  Shaye launched the assault with a well placed line drive single.  Garry bombed another shot to center-right--this time hard off the fence--and legged out a 2 run 4 bagger.  John C renewed the assault with a double up the middle and scored on a Scott J RBI single to left.  A single by the Captain moved Scott to second where he would loot the final run of the game on an RBI single by Steve F.

The victory sets up a round two battle against the South's only remaining combatant: Corruption.  Round 1 proved what most already knew--the superiority of Northern teams.  The North won 7 out of 8 battles with the South including toppling the South's one seed with their 8 seed.
