The Dirty Buc Ho's slogged their way to a lethargic 8-3 victory over their first round opponent in the 2008 Sunday League Playoffs. Despite the deceptively close score, The Red Team was clearly over matched in this contest. Deryl B continued his stretch of dominant pitching while facing a mere 17 batters over 4 innings and giving up 3 hits. The only run allowed by Deryl was in the 3rd--a fly ball out that was misplayed in LF by the very reliable Matt T. "I should've had that...but I played an out into a HR..." said Matt, while adding "Deryl told me I owed him a HR, but I fell a base short...I still owe him..."
Mark E replaced Deryl in the 5th and continued the DBH stretch of pitching dominance while facing 8 batters in the 5th and 6th. His defense failed him a bit in the 7th and Mark gave up 2 runs, 1 earned. Mark M stymied any hope of a Red Team who wears blue shirts rally with a nifty 6-3 DP to end the game.
The Buc's apparent apathy seemed to infect their offense as they scattered 14 hits and 13 extra bases--their second lowest count of the season. The Ho's never strung together a big inning, but received just enough--including a big Brett B solo blast--to secure a victory.
"It was hot out and we had a long wait in the sun before the Arc Barsinisters/Near Perfects game was completed..." said John C, "I guess you can say we took out just enough to beat them..."
The Buc's better take out a little more than just enough when they face the cagey Cream Ales in Round 2 when the playoffs resume after the Labor Day holiday.
