The Pirates surrender their flag to Justice League.
Some losses are best explained by bad luck, while other losses are designated by poor play. The Pirates first loss of the season was of the latter variety. The inability to properly catch, throw, and hit doomed this Pirate effort. In fact, half of the Hooker men reached base only three times in twelve plate appearances. The overall dismal offensive performance overshadowed a two home run, 5 RBI game for Scott J--who scored only when he plated himself. Warren S reached base three times in three chances advancing to 2B only once, John C led off the 6th with a double and never moved. These examples typified the Hookers' offensive ineptitude on this day.
On the other side of the field, the Pirates defensive ship sprung many leaks. Justice League took extra bases on the defense all game and reached base several times in crucial situations by poor Hooker decisions and failed Hooker plays. "It wasn't our day..." said manager John C, "We played like a team that hasn't played in several weeks. We worked hard to earn this loss. But we're better than this, and I know we'll put forth a strong effort next week."
The Hookers play another out of division game against Dueling Dragons on Friday, August 7.
