High heat and humidity can't stop the Hookers from casting off their foes.

In a game where the most noteworthy events were the weather and the quick return of the Captain, Christina, from injuries sustained earlier in the week, the Pirates earned a quick, yet lethargic victory over the Bayside Tigers. The Pirates also started Garry S for the first time this season in the circle. Garry worked quickly and pitched an efficient, crisp game keeping the Tigers off balance with his nasty knuckle ball.

The Pirates were down 3-2 in the 4th, but used a 5 run 5th to plunder a lead they refused to surrender.

Despite her injuries, the Captain showed Pirate resolve and returned to the field; Christina had a great day at the plate going 3-4 with a double, 2 RBI's, and a run scored.

The Pirates plunder their enemy's magic, while their foe surrenders any sense of decency.

Their biggest win of the season was against an undefeated Appletini's team; they played Cafe Hollywood and Wildwood tough only to lose by two runs to each. But, DPH isn't Appletini's, Cafe Hollywood, or Wildwood--they are the first place team in the toughest division. With their regular Pirates on the field, DPH can pitch, defend, and slug with the best of them and Magic Stick is far from the best.

Their mix of slap hitters and speed could not penetrate the stout Hooker's defense.

Their poor pitching and average defense could not stop the Pirate sluggers from stomping a 12-0, 4 1/3 inning, mercy rule shortened defeat on them.

When walks were handed out, the Hookers gladly accepted.

When gaps were present in the defense, the Hookers happily exploited them.

Add to that another dominant start by Warren S who gave up only 5 hits.

The Pirate offense put 18 runners on base and pounded a healthy 0.7 bases per at bat to score 12 runs...on a day when 1 run was sufficient.

Classless

In the top of the second--in the midst of another frustrating shutout inning for Magic Stick--a routine fielder's choice play developed. Despite an easy out at 2B (by a full step +), the Magic Stick base runner decided to take out the Hooker's Captain, Christina C, with a full body hit. Christina was badly bruised and shaken up. There was no attempt to slide or avoid contact and no apparent attempt to apologize.

With that, Magic Stick has earned the less than coveted Despicable Play of the Season Award for poor sportsmanship, bullying, and classless play. Congratulations.

The Hookers play their arch rivals Café Hollywood, aka Underdogs, next Monday, August 17, 6:00P at Mullen's Field.
