DPH Runs Scored; for and against: 60 RS vs. 27 RA

The Dirty Pirate Hookers started the tourney in typical Hooker fashion--lots of scoring and stifling pitching/defense. The Kegerators were clearly overwhelmed by the Pirate ambush and absorbed a 30-1 blasting. Deryl B was dominant on the mound pitching a complete game and allowing only 6 hits. The Kegerators had no answer for Deryl's drop pitch and his control was impeccable. The defense helped him out of trouble in the top of the 3rd turning a nifty 6-3--Mark M to Christina C--double play. The Pirate offense was relentless as nearly every Hooker hit their way on base and scored. "I put the brakes on...I told the team to lay off taking the extra base..." said John C. The Pirates bombed the Kegerators with 26 hits, 2 HRs, and 7 BBs. Thankfully, the game was mercy ruled after the top of the 5th.

For Game 2, the Hookers faced a familiar foe in Albany Med. Unlike their meeting last fall where the Pirates were short a player, the Hookers attacked Albany Med with a full squad. Instead of a tense 5-3 win, the Pirates blew out Albany Med in a 19-7 rout. John C started the game and struggled a bit as he tried to decipher the strike zone. "He wasn't calling any high strikes, the zone was low...regardless, it's on me to make the adjustment..." John C worked through his struggles and some sloppy defense pitching 4 innings while surrendering 7 runs and only 1 extra base hit.

John C gave way to Deryl in the top of the 5th who reprised his dominance over Albany Med and continued to shut them down. The Hookers relentlessly piled on runs in every inning with contributions throughout the lineup. The plundering ended with a 19-7 mercy shortened victory for the Pirates.

After two dominant back to back wins at Mullen's Field, the Hookers packed up, stopped for lunch, and traveled to FoD during their 1½ hour break to face their next opponent, Pro Fire, who was given a de facto home field advantage by sympathetic schedule makers. Having played their previous game at FoD, Pro Fire arrogantly usurped the Home dugout leaving the Hookers on the dust riddled visitors side. "I don't know them, but they seemed a bit haughty..." sneered John C "...but it was up to us to make them pay..." Unfortunately, the Pirates failed to deliver.

From the start the Pirates were flat working only a single in the top half of the 1st. When Ben Ho crossed the beach sand like FoD infield and took the mound, he was unprepared for the odd strike zone waiting for him. "It took me awhile to figure it out...I was forced to lay some pitches in there..." Pro Fire, whose pitcher was familiar with the umpire, took advantage and scored the bulk of their runs in the first three innings until Ben Ho mastered the queer strike zone. The Hookers defense provided no relief giving up 4 errors over the same stretch. "Pro Fire is good, they'll take advantage of mistakes..." said John C. To compound matters, the Pirates offense never gained traction producing only 6 runs; half of which came from a Brett B 3 run HR in the 2nd. A GIDP choked a promising start for the Hookers in the top of the 7th. "We got behind and saw them hit a couple bombs...the reaction was to try to make up ground in the same fashion...we're not that kind of team..." mused John C. With that the Pirates lost 13-6 and were dumped into the losers’ bracket with their next game scheduled for Sunday morning.

Many Pirates consoled themselves by attending an after game party generously hosted by Erika S and her husband Chris. After much grog and off key songs, the Pirates were rejuvenated and ready to play. Thanks Erika and Chris, I had a great time!

The Dirty Pirate Hookers were unceremoniously bounced from the Coed Tourney on Sunday morning by Marsh Farms in a tense, but quick paced 6-5 contest. The Hooker offense had an auspicious beginning with Matt T, Erika S, and Ben Ho reaching base in quick fashion. Ben Ho drove in Matt T with an RBI single and Mark M knocked in Erika and Ben Ho with a 2 RBI single. With that the Hookers provided Mark E a 3-0 lead with which to work. Mark E silenced the heavy hitting Farmers for most of the game running into a tough stretch only in the 2nd when he gave up 4 runs, 3 earned. Other than that Mark was dominant inducing quick outs from the Farmers who managed to scratch out only 2 more runs the rest of the game. After a strong first offensive inning, the Hookers offense remained silent except for a solo HR by Mark M in the 4th and an RBI double by Ben Ho in the 6th. The Pirates squelched other chances to score more runs by running into 2 double plays. "That's the thing with one run games, if you look back you can always point to key moments that gave away the game or could've won the game..." pondered John C.

The fact is both Pirate defeats were to B1 level teams who dared to sully their images playing in a slow pitch contest. Despite the level mismatch and the losses, the Hookers acquitted themselves well and proved to be no typical "C" pushovers. When asked if the losses meant anything, John C replied: "We did well...and I know we could've done better. This was a nice tuner for the regular season and I hope everybody took away something positive. The games helped me evaluate some of my new players and I look forward to the regular season..."

The Dirty Pirate Hookers are scheduled to play their first regular season game on Thursday, 05/01, 6P @ Legion Field against Albany Med.
