Softball Week in Review - May 22, 2011

The Wolverines opened the week by raining hell on commissioner Pete B's team St. Peter's Angels with an incredibly lopsided 25-15 victory. The score does not reflect how completely the Wolverines dominated the game. The commish excused and absolved himself of any responsibility regarding the result citing a bum ankle; conversely, John C and Deryl B played despite their multitude of ailments. Deryl B started in the circle for Wolverines and worked masterfully around a putrid strike zone--relenting a bit only when the lead became embarrassing. D.J. M and John C provided some Wolverine power by blasting a pair of HR's. The Wolverines and the rest of the Sunday League are off next week because of the holiday.

On Wednesday, May 25th, Enrico Palazzo faced the woeful KPMG. Becki pitched the tenors to an easy 14-2 victory. The tenors will sing again this Friday against long time foe Quiet Storm (Cool Runnings).

Thursday brought a pair of games from Toyota and EYS MisFits. Toyota's favorite punching bags, Lockdown, bowed out of this match with a forfeit giving Toyota an easy 7-0 victory. EYS MisFits punched Fiscal Hitters with a tidy 7-2 victory. Toyota is off to the races this Wednesday playing host to CP All Stars--who have yet to earn a victory. EYS plays this Thursday against a re-hatched version of Western Diner.

The May 23rd EYS MisFits and May 25th Anarchy games were both postponed and will be rescheduled.

Lynn's League lost its permit to use the West Albany field because an unruly "fan" was insulted when asked to refrain from drinking beer during a kid's game prior to a Lynn's game.

Softball Week in Review - May 15, 2011

Rain wreaked havoc early in the week as the Wolverines and Enrico Palazzo games were washed out on Sunday. Tuesday brought more of the same as Enrico Palazzo had their second postponed game of the week.

Anarchy, behind a powerful offense, Chris's efficient pitching, and manager Stacey D's brilliant game plan, crumbled Jim's Masonary 20-5 on Wednesday. Led by a relentless offensive attack, Anarchy earned their first victory of the season in a decisive, mercy rule shortened game. Their awakening bats spell trouble for the Ninjas on June 1 under the lights at West Albany.

In an early season showdown on Thursday, two undefeated teams, Synergy Fitness and Toyota of Clifton Park, faced off at Mullen's Park; Synergy logged Toyota's first mark on the right hand side of the ledger with a 17-8 victory. The game was close through 6, but Toyota's pitching and offensive struggles ultimately doomed their effort. Toyota looks to get back on track against their traditional punching bag, Lockdown, on May 26 at Mullen's.

Also, on Thursday, EYS MisFits defeated Fiscal Hitters--the only team to log a regular season victory against MisFits in 2010--7-5.

Softball Week in Review

The week of May 8, 2011 started in auspiscious fashion with a fairly clean 7-5 Wolverines victory over Ballbusters who honored their name only in a verbally berating sense. John C provided comic relief with some awful baserunning. "Yeah, pretty embarrassing...nobody wants to be put out at 1B on a hit to the outfield..." said John C, "but I was kind of hurting toward the end of the game. I hit the ball hard to right and their RF--all knees and elbows--high-tailed it after the ball. I kind of figured there was no way he could throw me out--he was hardly a physical specimen--then wham! A laser to 1B. Personally I think I was safe, but that's not how the ump saw it." Video replays, on the other hand, clearly show John C was thrown out by no less than 4 steps.

On Monday, EYS MisFits beat up on their perennial playoff foe, All-Stars, 24-10. With their reworked lineup featuring offseason aquisition Eric G, EYS looks primed for another very deep playoff run. John C started the game in the circle and flummoxed All-Stars offense with a dizzying array of knucklers, two seamers, and curve balls. Close through 4 innings, the EYS offense lived up to its promise in the bottom of the 5th delivering an effective knock out blow to All-Stars. The stage is now set for a huge regular season rematch on June 21 under the lights on Nott Road #1.

Toyota of Clifton Park faced an unfamiliar opponent on Thursday: Local 7 Hitmen, who feature a season lengthening combination of poor defense and punchless offense. Fred C capped their offense while providing Toyota with another quality start. Toyota's 2-0 start with 27 runs scored is much improved over last season, but a real test comes this Thursday when they host Synergy Fitness at Mullen's Park. Synergy has pasted their opponents over 3 games scoring 57 runs while surrendering only 6.

The feature game for Friday pit Anarchy against Blood, Sweat & Beers. Anarchy pitcher Chris provided a strong start for her team and held a lead for 6 1/3 innings. Anarchy's lack of offense and several defensive miscues ultimately betrayed Chris's effort to pitch Anarchy to their first victory. Anarchy's next chance to grab a W comes this Wednesday against Jim's Masonary.

Enrico Palazzo did not play during the previous week and both their May 15 and May 17 games were rained out.
