Softball Week in Review: Week 5; May 20 - May 26

May 20, Sunday
John C and Deryl B mustered the troops for another scintillating Pirates plunderin'. Like Milton Berle, they took out just enough to defeat an overmatched Bobby T's 6-0 on a beautiful late and lazy Sunday afternoon. Deryl B, after tweaking his mechanics with his crusty pitching coach, hurled a slow pitch beauty. "My goto pitch had movement that it lacked all season. I felt good out there..." exclaimed Deryl B while proving one is never too old to learn. Pete G, Dustin T, and Kim W swarmed in the OF and snared fly balls like loot from the heavens. John C--who had a good view of the action from RF--zipped a throw to 3B early on to freeze would be runs thus paving the way for a shut-out. The Pirates never had a sustained rally, but on a day when one run would suffice, Pete G and Dustin T provided more than enough support with a pair of 2 run blasts. The Pirates take Memorial weekend off and resume their siege on the league with a June 3 double banger.

May 21, Monday
EYS was washed out.

Anarchy earned a rain soaked victory over American Legion: 12-6.

May 22, Tuesday
Rain fell, the league waved the red flag and Toyota stayed in the pits. The crew prepares for the first ever Toyota Cup next Tuesday, May 29.

May 24, Thursday
Colonie Beverage was looting the woeful Dirty Pirates until rain mercifully washed the Pirates' crimes away. Colonie Beverage Diablos were leading 5 - 2 in the bottom of the 4th. The bottom of the inning just started; there was no count, no outs, no runs, and no base runners. The umpire reported an incorrect game state--an issue that needs to be resolved with the league.

Softball Week in Review: Week 4; May 13 - May 18

The Dirty Pirates Sunday team sacked One-ders 12-2. John C, making his first slow pitch start of the season, toyed with them for 5 innings before manager Deryl B yanked the lefty for no other reason than because. While the Pirates offense was stalled for most of the game, they were never in peril.

On Monday, EYS pounded a hapless Media Logic 15-0 despite rain and mud. EYS started short handed, but Media Logic could not capitalize on the two old guys in the outfield.

EYS played again on Thursday and punished Scared Hitless for their bad pun. The 20-3 drubbing fails to fully capture the lopsided nature of the game.

Toyota of Clifton Park Suffered their first defeat of the season 8-6 to a revitalized Matchbox. Playing short handed, Toyota was sloppy in the field and never gained any traction on offense. It surely wasn't a great start by John C--who issued 3 walks and dealt 2 K's--but he gave his team a chance for a W. Toyota never waved the white flag--battling to the end while finishing the game with the go ahead run at the plate.

The Dirty Pirates surrendered to the weather.

Anarchy had no scheduled game.

Softball Week in Review: Week 1 - 3

Week 1 (April 22 - 29)
A slightly revamped Toyota of Clifton Park men team opened the season with a 9-6 victory over Trollops. Russ's mush couldn't hold back sluggish Toyota bats that provided just enough offense for the win.

Week 2 (April 29 - May 5)
Week 2 started out with a double dose of Dirty Pirates--weekday and Sunday teams.

Dirty Pirates II (Sunday) pasted Blue Barracudas from beginning to end; 19-4. Deryl B started in the circle and gave the opposition a heavy dose of the blues.

The Dirty Pirates were as sluggish as Dirty Pirates II were on fire mustering only 6 runs with a pathetic dose of poor defense. A round of keel-hauling should inspire the troops. The Dirty Pirates quietly surrendered 9-6.

On Monday, Toyota of Clifton Park pounded Ship's Pub 17-1. Toyota fired on all cylinders--strong defense, pitching, and a surging offense that showed patience and power with 13 walks and 3 blasts.

Stacey D's--The Hammer--Anarchy saw their week washed away by inclement weather. Booooo!

The Dirty Pirates set out to plunder a victory against Legion of Doom and succeeded despite sluggish bats and uninspired defense. Regardless, they happily took the 10-6 win and the loot.

Week 3 (May 6 - May 12)
Dirty Pirates II pasted their nemesis Panthers, 12-11, despite a surely umpire who seemed to work for their foes. Employing their standard 12 person lineup, the Pirates opened up a 9-0 lead from which the Panthers could never claw back. Offensively, Dustin T led the way for the Pirates with 3 bombs. Relishing their booty, the Pirates enjoyed grog and darts late into the night.

On Monday, Anarchy finally played their first game and with the help of a 13 run 3rd, dominated Red Robin 17-1. Stacey D--the Hammer-showed her team how to do it with a scorching line drive over third base. The rest of the Anarchists followed and the hit parade ensued.

The Dirty Pirates closed out a successful week of softball by plundering an undefeated "The Voodoo", 13-9, who tried, but could not hex the Pirates. Despite The Voodoo needling 5 runs over the 2nd and 3rd innings, the Pirates refused to surrender and answered with a 5 spot at the bottom of the 3rd. Deryl B shut out The Voodoo in the 4th to which the Pirate offense enthusiastically responded with a 6 spot in their half of the inning. After another Voodoo naught in the 5th, the Pirates--through sloppy D--allowed the Voodoo to creep back in with double 2's in the 6th and 7th. The Pirates fended off the siege by posting a couple more runs to secure victory. Special mention goes to Pirate Pete G who cast bodily health to the wind while making a series of great plays in left field.
