Dirty Pirate Hookers: Game 6 Summary

Dirty Pirate Hookers: Game 6

Paychex: 3
DPH: 10

6/17/09, Wednesday, 6:00 PM @ Bishop Maginn

The Hookers embraced their reliable battle plan of crafty pitching, entrenched defense, and persistent offense to defeat Paychex for their 6th win of the season.

Before the game, GM John C made a roster move and called up Shane B to replace Steve F for the game. DPH issued the following statement: "Steve F has a personal matter to attend and is not available tonight." Team sources ruled out anything health related.

John C also volunteered additional information: "We have a few guys banged up with some lingering issues...myself included. We also had a player who could only play part of the game. Calling up Shane provided me with flexibility in case somebody had to come out. Preference is always given to call ups and it's my standing policy to play them the whole game. I trust my players to understand the situation." Shane B played center and left and batted 7th for the Hookers.

Paychex fired the opening salvo in the top of the first scoring a run on a couple of hits. The Pirates, unworried, launched an immediate response. Garry S led off with a single and the captain, Christina C, reached with assistance from the first baseman. With two on John C shot opposite field to score Garry. Colleen followed with a soft line drive to plate Christina. The Pirates scored their third run of the inning when Tahnee H bounced to short.

Paychex battled back in the 2nd scoring two to tie the game. Through the remaining 5 innings, pitcher Warren S, working with his battery mate Mike F, yielded no more runs. The Hooker defense refused to bend and committed only 1 error on a mis-thrown flip back to the pitcher.

The Pirates broke the tie in the 3rd when John C led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a two out walk by Tahnee H. Shane B plated John C with a bloop single to short center for the eventual winning run.

The Hookers fired for effect with 2 runs in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th. John C led off the 5th with a single and was forced out on a ground ball to third. Scott J punched a ground ball through the hole and a walk by Tahnee loaded the bases. With one down, Shane hit a fly ball to center that was misplayed by the rover scoring Colleen and Scott.

With one down in the 6th, Mike F initiated a four run rally by belting a ground ball through the hole. Four consecutive singles--including an RBI single by Christina and a 2 RBI line drive single by Colleen B scored three runs for the Hookers. Mike F scored on a throwing error by the left fielder.

In a slow pitch softball anomaly, the Hookers won the game without the benefit of an extra base hit. "It was a little odd..." said the manager, "....but it's just another way to win a ball game." When asked if the power outage was a problem, he added "No, it's nothing long term. It was a combination of nagging injuries and weather. A stiff wind blowing in from right negated our lefty power. We sprayed the ball around and exploited mistakes."

With the win, the Dirty Pirate Hookers' record stands at 6-0.

The Hookers play their arch rivals Café Hollywood, aka Underdogs, next Friday, June 26, 6:00P at Ridge Field. Manager John C refused to lend any emotion and labeled the event as "just another game."

Dirty Pirate Hookers: Game 5 Summary

Dirty Pirate Hookers: Game 5

Team Fred: 11
DPH: 18

6/13/09, Saturday, 4:00 PM @ Bishop Maginn

The Dirty Pirate Hookers sink Team Fred 18-11 to plunder more loot.

For the second time this season, the Pirates made prodigious use of their belaying pins to club their foe. The timing was perfect since pitcher John C and the defense found it difficult to keep Team Fred off the bases. But, the Pirates were never in trouble and exploited a big 8 run 2nd to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the game--and effectively matched any runs put up by Fred in the innings afterward.

The Hookers failed to score only in the 3rd, but Fred took advantage of the lull by adding 3 in the 4th to stay in the game. The Pirates recouped most of the runs in the bottom half of the inning to keep the game tantalizingly out of Fred's reach.

With the exception of some stellar play at short by Hooker Tahnee H, the real story of the day was the Pirate's offense. Every Pirate was on base at least twice with three reaches more common. This created continuity throughout the lineup and allowed the Hookers to post crooked numbers in every inning except one. Other than a home run by Scott J, three doubles by Garry S, and a triple by John C, the Hookers decried slugging and reached base with an alacrity that advanced the steady stream of offense. Especially symbolic of this on base proclivity was Christina C who exercised the patience of a saint and exuded team think by drawing three walks...and scoring three times. Only two plate appearances resulted in multiple RBI--a 3 RBI HR by Scott J in the 2nd, and a well placed 2 RBI single by Mike F in the 2nd.

DPH Captain

An observant DPPI reporter noticed a subtle "C" on Christina C's team shirt. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that Christina was named DPH's first team captain. "We've had many players...a few really good players course through the roster..." said Manager John C, "...but Christina is a constant and the first to deserve the title Captain. She is the ultimate Hooker--a great teammate and a hell of a player. I'm proud to be her teammate..."

There was no ceremony as pomp and circumstance does not suit Christina. This, of course, is in keeping with her attitude of team first play. When asked about her new title, Christina was typically unassuming and appreciative "It was very unexpected..." she said while admitting she told the manager "Cool! Thanks!"

The Hookers look to plunder Paychex next week at Bishop Maginn. Come out and watch your favorite Pirates next Wednesday, June 17 at 6:00P!
